Origin story
Somatic Museum Club was born out of a desire for connective queer spaces that aren’t centered around nightlife. We gather together in museums to reflect on what art inspires in us and reflects back to us, perhaps gaining connection and clarity in the process. Somatic Museum Club invites us to move through museums slowly, share time together, and let art light the path back to our authentic selves.
About the Facilitator
Hi, I’m Reid (he/they), a queer, trans therapist and recovering over-thinker. As a therapist, I help trans and queer adults return to the wisdom of their bodies, especially those who’ve had to disconnect from that wisdom in order to survive. Through my own healing journey, I’ve learned to carry a mix of somatic practices, Internal Family Systems (IFS), trauma-informed care, and a systemic lens on collective liberation with me into art spaces.
My personal relationship with museums was a journey. I used to rush through them, blankly staring at placards and getting stressed if I didn’t see every piece in the exhibit before getting too hungry. However, once I started working on my own healing and embodiment practices, I learned to see museums as a mirror, a tarot spread, an invitation. Now, I love inviting others to do the same—on their own terms, in their own way.
I’d love for you to join us!
